Competencies Covered
The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment comprises ten units of competence, made up of seven core competencies and three electives. For people who only need to carry out the basic tasks of on-the-job training or assessing, they can complete one of the 'skill sets' linked to the qualification.
The competencies covered in this Learner Guide are listed below, grouped according to the skill set they are found in or their availability as part of the full qualification.

This skill set will allow you carry out formal assessments under the auspices of a registered training organisation. However, you must also be accredited in the vocational competencies you wish to assess in, or have equivalent evidence of your competence.

This skill set is most suitable for on-the-job trainers and assessors working in an enterprise Registered Training Organisation (RTO), or in a business that works with an RTO under an auspicing arrangement. As with the Assessor skill set, you must also be accredited in the vocational competencies you plan to assess, or hold equivalent evidence of competence.

This skill set is designed for supervisors or managers whose job it is to supervise apprentices or trainees in their work area. It does not include all the skills of an 'Enterprise trainer and assessor', but it will allow you to provide on-the-job training and mentoring, as well as help the assessor to carry out workplace assessments.

If you are a workplace trainer who works mainly in a classroom situation and is not involved in assessing, this is an appropriate suitable skill set.

If your workplace training activities are mainly with individuals or small groups, this is more suitable than the 'Presenting' skill set.
TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
To complete the full TAE40116 qualification, you must successfully complete nine core units plus one elective units. This Learner Guide covers all core units plus five optional electives, as shown below.
